FAQs

What Is an Ironworker Machine, and What Is Its Primary Purpose?

Ironworker is a class of machine that can shear, notch, and punch holes in steel plates and profiles. The name is now used to refer to the whole class of machines (made by at least a dozen brands, including Edwards Ironworkers). If there ever was a brand name, it has now become a genericized trademark. Ironworkers generate force using mechanical advantage or hydraulic systems.

What’s the Main Difference Between Edwards, Piranha, and Scotchman Ironworkers?

Onix Machinery Sales founder, CJ Ruzza, has sold all three brands. All three brands of Ironworkers are made in the USA, which is a bonus when it comes to getting parts quickly and having service and warranty-related issues answered in a timely manner. They are all excellent Ironworkers. The best in the industry by far!

Piranha Ironworkers have a larger footprint, and its mechanics operate in a “swivel” manner as opposed to an “up-and-down” system like the Edwards and the Scotchman. Piranha makes lots of other types of equipment. It makes Press Brakes and Shears, and its Ironworkers are only a small segment of what it sells.

Scotchman Ironworkers are of a mid-range size, and the quality is outstanding. Parts are easy to come by, and it also sells Bandsaws, Aluminum Saws, and other metalworking machinery. Scotchman Ironworkers are of a mid-range size, and the quality is outstanding.

Edwards Manufacturing only produces the Edwards Ironworkers, its accessories and Powerlink Hydraulic Tools. The biggest advantage of dealing with Edwards is that its focus is entirely on Ironworkers; it doesn’t have distractions like the other two brands. All of Edwards’ Research and Development go into making its Ironworkers the best in the industry. The other most significant advantage that Edwards has is the exclusive Edwards Powerlink™ System, which turns your Edwards Ironworker into a power source for our ever-increasing line of hydraulic tools. Nobody can compete with Edwards!
